AUBURN — Neota J. Sherman, 69, of Leighton Road in Durham died Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Hospice House in Auburn following a long illness.
She was born May 15, 1941, in Durham, a daughter of Harvey W. and Nettie E. (Getchell) White. She was educated in Durham schools.
Neota was employed for many years as a stitcher at Eastland Shoe and also at L.L. Bean for many years before her retirement.
She enjoyed spending time in the outdoors and was an avid hunter. She had enjoyed a three-generation moose hunt with her sons and grandsons in 2007.
She enjoyed feeding the birds and various other wildlife around her home. Neota’s greatest love was brook fishing. She enjoyed being out by the brook with her sons with a line in the water. She will be remembered for her ability to outfish the best of them all the while with a big smile on her face.
Survivors include two sons, George and his wife, Sandra Huntington, of Durham, Scott and his wife, Stacey Huntington, of West Gardiner; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, Elwin J. Sherman, who died in 2006; a daughter, Lois Snow; five brothers; and five sisters.
