DEAR SUN SPOTS: In the Oct. 29 column you had an inquiry about upholstery shops in the area.

Tell your readers that Maine Correctional Center in Windham has a large upholstery shop that has been doing excellent work for more than 20 years at very reasonable prices. All the work is done by inmates learning new work skills. Thank you. — Bert Jalbert, industries manager, Bert.Jalbert@maine.gov

DEAR SUN SPOTS: There is an upholstery shop called Mary’s Upholstery in Topsham that recovers living room sets, chairs, boat cushions, snowmobile seats, etc. The phone number is 353-7638. Fabric Warehouse in Auburn recommends them. They get the items back within five days. — Gmatop@aol.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Hill’s Upholstery on Route 196 on this edge of Topsham has been in business several decades and appeared to still be there and doing business when I drove by a few weeks ago. — No Name, Lewiston

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Your readers have helped us many times in the past, and I am hoping that will be the case again. I am looking for used iPods that people are finished using. It would be so helpful to have our residents’ preferred music easily available for them to listen to. Please contact me at 783 2039. Thank you. — Mary Lou Dow, activities director, mldjif@aol.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m writing to see if there is someone in the area who buys up leftover yard sale and flea market lots. Thank you. — Elvera Pardi, efpardi@megalink.net

ANSWER: Sun Spots often has this request, but has not gotten a response. Readers?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read your column faithfully and hope you can help me with this request. I am left-handed and want to learn to knit. I wonder if there is a knitting club locally, one with a left-handed knitter who could assist me in learning.

Also, I have been crocheting scarves all year and have almost 20 to give away to an organization that helps the needy. They are adult scarves. Any organization interested can e-mail me at anananagram@live.com. Thank you. — No Name via e-mail

DEAR SUN SPOTS: My husband liked Lawrence Welk and taped many programs. I have four with six hours each of videos, no commercials, for any nursing or assisted living home that would be interested in them for their activity room.

I also have two beautiful books, one gold leaf, “Treasury of Gardening” and “Creating a Container Garden” both new, to anyone interested.

I can be reached at 784-8388. Please leave a message.

Thank you for the great service. — No Name, Lewiston

DEAR SUN SPOTS: What happened to Willy Beans? It was a great place to eat — good soup, good sandwiches, great desserts with good atmosphere and great service. — Louise, louiseyvette@yahoo.com

ANSWER: Willy Beans, like several other local restaurants, closed this year. The economy has been tough on businesses, especially eateries.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for recipes from the now-closed KornHausKeller restaurant. If anyone has them and would like to share, I am interested in their salmon loaf and coleslaw. It had a mild creamy flavor, no vinegar taste like most coleslaws. Thank you. — No Name via e-mail

DEAR SUN SPOTS: What were the election results for Weld? — Patrick Lundy, palundy3@tds.net

ANSWER: On Nov. 4 on Pages C7 and C8, the Sun Journal published charts showing how all the towns in its coverage area voted on the big ballot issues: governor, U.S. representative, the Legislature, the casino and referendums.

Unfortunately, the paper does not have the room or the resources to include every office (such as selectman) for every town. To find out what happened in your town, you’ll need to contact your town office.

Many towns have websites where they report such news. Although Weld has a website, www.weld-maine.org, Sun Spots did not find election results. But the site does include an e-mail contact and a list of the current officials that could be of use to you.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Sometime back, there was a letter from a lady wanting to know where to get thinner bath towels. I had been looking for these, too.

I found them today at Wallmark in Gorham N.H., two for $3. They are bath-towel size, but not the big fluffy ones. I wanted them because I have arthritis in my hands, and it hurts to use the heavy towels. Hope this helps. — Jennie Brown, jenniebonkers@gmail.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Does anybody want stuff animals. Trying to clean. Thank you. — Gerry Thibault, gthibaul@bates.edu
