Bean kicks off the holidays with entertainment and a coat drive for seniors

FREEPORT — L.L.Bean kicks off the holiday season with its annual Tree Lighting Ceremony 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, in Discovery Park, adjacent to the L.L.Bean Flagship Store. The tree will be lit with thousands of energy-efficient LED lights, strung by local artist Pandora LaCasse. The Boy Singers of Maine and Musica de Filia Girls Choir will be performing, and special appearances by characters from Portland Stage’s production of A Christmas Carol will add to the fun.

Once again, L.L.Bean will be hosting a Coat Drive for Seniors during the weekend along with Maine Triad chapters and Maine Area Agencies on Aging, collecting gently used coats for Maine’s older citizens. For every coat received, L.L.Bean will provide a matching donation of $5 to the Keep ME Warm Campaign.

Horse and carriage rides will begin on Saturday and continue each Saturday and Sunday through Christmas from 1-7 p.m. Shoppers can enjoy the lights and decorations along Freeport’s Main Street and experience this old-time tradition.

The Tree Lighting Ceremony is just one of many fun activities for families during the holidays. L.L.Bean’s Northern Lights continues with entertainment, light displays and special events scheduled each weekend, culminating with a special New Year’s Eve celebration for kids, KidsNight, featuring Rich Charette and fireworks.
