A check for $1,833.64 was received yesterday by the City of Lewiston in full settlement of its claim against the Bates Manufacturing Company of this city for excess water used for a period of six years to Nov. 16 of the present year. This adjustment is understood to be entirely satisfactory to all parties concerned and will prevent litigation.
50 years ago, 1960
Four Lewiston police officers leave Sunday for Camp Keyes, Augusta, to begin three weeks of specialized training.
Making the trip will be Patrolmen Gerard O. Laroche, Lionel Beauchesne, Arthur R. Ferguson and Norman J. Poulin. The special training school opens on Nov. 28 and runs through Dec. 16. The four Lewiston officers will join policemen assigned to many other Maine departments at the school.

SABATTUS — Former Fire Chief Paul Lebel was honored Saturday night at a surprise dinner at the American Legion Hall.
Fire Chief Mike Blais presented Lebel with a gold watch and a plaque. The plaque was inscribed “Presented to Paul Lebel for nine years as Chief of the Sabattus Fire Department, 1977-1985.” A fire chief badge was mounted on the plaque above the inscription.
