FARMINGTON — Activities planned Saturday during Chester Greenwood Day will feature a new attraction.
The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce will host a performance by a new clogging group called In-Clog-Neat-O from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m in front of Bangor Savings Bank on Main Street.
Cloggers Darcy Shurtleff of New Sharon and Debbie McKinney of Farmington will clog to Christmas tunes and be accompanied by carolers who will provide holiday music during dance breaks, Shurtleff said Wednesday.
Shurtleff, a former member of Moose Creek Cloggers, has ventured out on her own starting the new group with McKinney. Her interest in clogging started through an Adult Education class but now she’s teaching and has a couple other members who are learning but not ready to perform, she said.
She loves to dance and share it with others. She’s even willing to teach some steps to audience members Saturday. They are looking for new members for the group.
Clogging, a distinctive form of American folk dance, is done with taps added to the toes and heels of dance shoes. The taps consist of two loosely joined metal plates that strike against each other, rather than the taps striking the floor.
