FAIRFIELD, Maine — An elderly local man avoided accident when he drove six miles south on Interstate 95 north, according to the Maine State Police.

Larry Ricker, 74, was charged with driving to endanger, the Portland Press Herald reports.

Ricker told police he was distracted by his dog while driving his pickup in Clinton and accidentally turned onto the wrong ramp. Instead of turning around, Ricker drove on the shoulder until he reached a turnaround, police told the paper.
