POLAND — Three people were injured, one critically, in a head-on crash Thursday afternoon at routes 121 and 11.

A Lexus driven by Christopher MacMahon, 31, of Poland, collided with a Ford Explorer driven by William Mitchell, 58, of Bridgton, Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

MacMahon and his mother, 65-year-old Jennifer MacMahon, had to be extricated from the mangled Lexus, police said.

All three victims were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where they were being treated Thursday night. At the request of the victims or their families, no information about their conditions was being released.

Police described Christopher MacMahon’s injuries as potentially life-threatening. The other injuries were described as serious.

The 12:45 p.m. crash forced the closure of a long stretch of Route 121 as emergency crews responded. Firefighters and rescue workers from Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland responded to the scene.

Androscoggin County Deputy Dennis Sampson was investigating the cause of the crash with help from a reconstruction team from Lewiston and Maine State Police.

The vehicles collided on a 50-mph stretch of roadway.
