LEWISTON — When volunteer Guy Nadeau was making his rounds on the St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion rehab floor Nov. 30, Lewiston Mayor Laurent F. Gilbert Sr., surprised him with the November Mayoral VIBE Award (Volunteers Inspire By Example).

Gilbert noted that Nadeau was being recognized “for your Eucharistic ministry at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion since 1998 where you are regarded as ‘energetic, personable, dedicated and dependable.’ You are also recognized for your monthly Eucharistic ministry at Central Maine Medical Center.”

Gilbert said, “Reaching out to others in such a meaningful way at both locations is no doubt greatly appreciated by those you serve. In addition, you are also commended for preparing food for those in need at St. Martin de Porres. Your willingness to assist others is a wonderful example of civic engagement.”

Nadeau said he was appreciative of the visit, shared with his wife, Jackie, who is also a d’Youville volunteer, and his son, Phil Nadeau, also attended the surprise presentation.

Nadeau shared a few words, smiles and laughter before he told those present, “I need to get back to work,” as he continued his volunteer duties for the day.
