LEWISTON — The Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 recently honored students from the Lewiston High School ROTC who won the Veterans of Foreign Wars patriotic audio-essay competition, “Voice of Democracy.”
The first-place winner was Ryan Dillingham; second place, Devin Deschenes; and third, Jessica Wesinger. Awards were presented by Armand Bussiere, Voice of Democracy chairman.
Air Force Junior ROTC Commander Lt. Col. Mark Welburn and M/Sgt. Thomas Noury were thanked for their dedication of the Americanism essay contest.
The Lewiston Middle School also participated in the VFW Patriot Pen essay writing contest. The top three winners received an award: first, Michael J. Harrington; second, Nicole J. Footer; and third, Katie E. Plourde.
Teacher Sue Rene received a special plaque for her appreciation and dedication. Awards were presented by Bob MacDonald, VFW post commander.
All winning student essays were forwarded to the VFW District competition.
