JAY — A cooperative venture between police and school officials will have students at the high school connecting with Jay police Detective Richard Caton IV.
The details of the plan are still being worked out, school Superintendent Robert Wall and police Chief Larry White Sr. said. Caton will either spend one full day or two half days a week at the school.
Wall told School Committee members on Thursday that the officer is checking with other school resource officers at schools including Mt. Blue High School to find out what is the most important items that should be worked on to deliver the most value.
White said he believes it will be good for students to get to know police in a school atmosphere. Caton will have lunch with the kids and participate in some class activities, White said.
They plan to sit down with Principal Gilbert Eaton to work out a schedule.
“It’s a win-win for both the Police Department and school,” White said.
