FARMINGTON — The Amnesty International chapter at the University of Maine at Farmington is hosting events every day through Friday in the downtown area and on campus as part of the Global Write-A-Thon to commemorate International Human Rights Day, which falls on Dec. 10.

Children’s show

PHILLIPS — A Children’s Christmas Talent Show will be held Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Phillips Area Community Center on Depot Street. Curtain will go up at 6 p.m. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to help keep the community center open. Santa will be on hand, as well as Mr. Scrooge. Light refreshments will be served.

The stars of the show will be children from Phillips Elementary School. There will be singing, dancing, instrumental performances, readings and a special presentation of “Christmas in Mother Goose Land.” Caroling will be featured between acts.

Other events being planned for the winter include a New Year’s Eve Social and the opening of the ice rink adjacent to the center.
