LIVERMORE FALLS — Sunday’s gift of a free, holiday dinner to area senior citizens will be the last one for the Livermore Falls High School Class of 2011.

The students organized their first dinner as sophomores and had no clue how it would grow and be appreciated in the community.

Students finalized plans for entertainment and decorations on Tuesday morning before school.

Nearly all of the 250 tickets have been given away for the dinner that will be served from 1 to 3 p.m. on Dec. 12 in the school cafeteria.

Finding out tickets are nearly gone is definitely a good thing, Senior Class President Mike Anctil said.

“Word is spreading,” he said.

The tickets are limited for meal planning purposes, a class adviser, Sue St. Pierre said. She is assisted by co-advisers Cathi Howell and Kym Bryant.

The three are hoping next year’s freshmen class will want to continue the tradition of offering the holiday dinner under their guidance.

After some negotiation among class leaders, students decided set-up time would be from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. They had to fit in making center pieces and reindeer in between athletic practice, sleeping and work.

At 9 a.m. on Sunday, they’ll begin setting up the cafeteria including cooking vegetables. The class gets some donations to assist them with their project.

School band members will play holiday music and some of the students will perform a skit to entertain their visitors. Cut out snowflakes will adorn the room along with candy canes and other holiday decorations.

When they put on their first holiday dinner three years ago, class Vice President Holden Parker said he thought it would be for one year. But he was wrong. The tradition caught on.

“This is our way to say thank you, we appreciate everything you do for us,” Parker said.

“And still do,” Secretary Lexi Niedner added.

“It’s a way for us to give back to our community who helped us,” Treasurer Keith Jewett said.

Before students adjourned their meeting, class Historian Annika Durrell asked anyone who had a study hall to help make reindeer and more snowflakes.
