Coach: Ryan Deschenes (fifth year)
Last year’s record: 11-8, lost in Western Class C preliminary round
Returning letter winners: Seniors — Kurt Johnson (6-1 guard), Jake Sicotte (5-11 guard); Juniors — Tom Applegate (6-6 center), David Dean (5-11 guard), Joe Bryant (5-8 guard); Sophomore — Zak Johnson (5-7 guard).
Key losses: Peter Keaney, Nathan Poulin, Chris Bryant, Tim Day, T.J. Novella.
Promising newcomers: Seniors — Jack Erickson (6-1 guard/forward), Frank Montana (5-9 forward), Zach Albert (5-11 forward); Junior — Ian McCracken (5-11 forward); Freshmen — Andrew Gosselin (6-0 forward), Eric Ulin (6-2 center), Madison Jalbert (5-11 forward).
Outlook: St. Dom’s will have a new look after losing standout Keaney, who transferred, and three other starters. Kurt Johnson saw the most significant playing time among the veterans. Other than Applegate, the Saints won’t wield much size. Last year’s move to the Mountain Valley Conference beefed up the schedule. After Boothbay and Wiscasset, the MVC South appears open, giving the Saints a chance to improve throughout the season and move up the ladder.
Coach’s comment: “It will be a learning curve, but I feel this group could be one of the hardest working and most coachable teams I have ever had. Hopefully by February we are playing our best basketball and have a chance at the playoffs.” — Coach Ryan Deschenes
