LISBON — Senior center Kelsey Linnell scored a game-high 13 points to lead Lisbon to a 35-33 triumph over Winthrop in MVC girls’ basketball action Friday.
The Greyhounds (1-0) trailed 18-14 at intermission, but charged out of the gate in the second half with six consecutive points. Sophomore guard Bailey Madore chipped in with 12 points.
The Ramblers (0-1) had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but came up short on the attempt. Senior point guard Nikki Scott led Winthrop with nine points in the losing effort.
Yarmouth 48, Poland 47
YARMOUTH — Freshman center Oliva Smith tossed a team-high 17 points as Yarmouth squeezed out a 48-47 win over Poland in WMC girls’ basketball action Friday.
The Knights jumped out to a 20-7 first-quarter lead, but the half wound down for a 27-24 margin at intermission.
Freshman Emily Bolduc hustled at both ends of the court, scoring a team-high 17 points for the Knights. Poland was agressive, forcing 25 turnovers, but struggled at the free-throw line, making just 5 of 17.
Poland converted a five-point deficit into a four-point lead late in the fourth quarter, but slid backwards in the final minutes. With eight seconds remaining, Bolduc attempted a jump shot to put Poland back on top, but the ball danced in and out of the basket as the buzzer sounded.
Dirigo 40, Mt. Abram 25
SALEM — Hannah Knight scored a game-high 13 points and Dirigo held Mt. Abram to just eight points in the first half as the Cougars marched off with a 40-25 victory in a girls’ basketball season opener.
Paige Murphy scored 10 points for Dirigo in a game where no 3-pointers were scored.
The Roadrunners showed some signs of life in the final stanza when they scored 11 points, with Miranda Smith leading the way with six points.
Dirigo’s big quarter came in the third when it erupted for 17 points.
Falmouth 41, Gray-NG 28
GRAY — Jenna Seevinigan popped in 15 points to lead Falmouth to a 41-28 victory over Gray-New Gloucester in girls’ basketball Friday night.
Seevinigan dominated inside offensively, scoring many of her points on offensive rebounds. Jackie Doyle chipped in with 10 for the Yachtsmen.
The Patriots were paced by Rachel Edson’s 10 points.
Carrabec 55, Telstar 21
NORTH ANSON — Melissa White and Marisa Murray each netted 12 points to help Carrabec pick up a 55-21 victory over Telstar.
The Cobras jumped out to a 17-0 lead and were never threatened. They led 23-4 at the half.
Casey Blaszcak was the leading scorer for the Rebels with nine points.
Messalonskee 38, Mt. Blue 37
FARMINGTON — Megan Pelletier’s inside jumper with 0.3 seconds remaining gave Messalonskee a 38-37 girls’ basketball win over Mt. Blue.
Pelletier led the Eagles with 14 points, while Mary Badeen added 10.
Jillian Perron matched up with Pelletier underneath to score 23 points for the Cougars. She hit nine of her 13 attempts from the line.
Brunswick 60, Oxford Hills 41
SOUTH PARIS — Dakota Foster knocked down 15 points and Lydia Caputi added 13 as Brunswick pulled away to a 60-41 decision over Oxford Hills.
Becky Champagne scored seven of her 11 points as Brunswick outscored Oxford Hills 18-10 in the second quarter and led 32-21 at the half.
Alex Rowe was the lone scorer in double digits for the Vikings with 14 points.
Cony 54, Lewiston 23
LEWISTON — Cony ran out to an 18-6 first-quarter lead and never looked back en route to a 54-23 downing of Lewiston.
Cony’s Mia Diplock led all scorers with 15 points including a pair of 3-pointers. Joise Lee added 14 points for the Rams.
Kelsey Dumond led the Blue Devils with seven points.
Oak Hill 34, Maranacook 18
READFIELD — Senior Maggie Sabine dumped in a game-high 19 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to lead Oak Hill to a 34-18 victory over Maranacook in a season-opening girls’ basketball game.
Maranacook led 7-5 after one quarter, but Oak Hill outscored the Black Bears 9-2 in the second for a 14-9 halftime lead.
The Raiders never looked back, holding Maranacook to nine second-half points.
Jessica Roberts chipped in with 10 points for Oak Hill while Katie Dore led Maranacook with six points.
Hockey
St. Dom’s 13, Yarmouth 4
YARMOUTH — For the second consecutive game, St. Dom’s scored six first-period goals, coasting to a 13-4 drudging of Yarmouth in girls’ hockey action Friday.
Senior forward Lauren Ratsep opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game on an assist by Marisa Zamrock. Lydia Martin followed with a score on Kayla McLellan’s first of four assists.
Jenna Fongemie, Zamrock, and Ratsep each followed with a goal before McClellan finished off the first-period scoring with a goal of her own.
Ratsep and Zamrock each finished with three goal. Zamrock also added a trio of assists for the Saints (5-0). Fongemie would add another score and Sophie Goulet added three assists. Arie Potter and Alicia Piccirillo each scored for Yarmouth.
