The Portland Symphony Orchestra’s “Magic of Christmas” concert series offers light orchestra music and holiday favorites played by 70-plus musicians, led by Robert Moody. Guest artists include Joe Cassidy, who performed on Broadway in “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” “1776”and “Les Miserables;” and Suzanne Nance, a conservatory-trained soprano with a long performing resume. Also performing will be the Saco Bay Children’s Choir and the Magic of Christmas Chorus. Figures of Speech Theatre of Freeport will present a condensed version of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” with all characters voiced by Cassidy. Performances at Merrill Auditorium inPortland City Hall will be at 2 and 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 11; at 1 and 5 p.m. on Dec. 12; at 2 and 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 17-18; and at 1 and 5 p.m. on Dec. 19.
