AUBURN — The Alpha Phi Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Central Maine Community College sponsored a “Walk for Hunger and Heat” Nov. 19.

The event is an “Honors in Action” project of the New England region of Phi Theta Kappa and a large number of chapters participated. Phi Theta Kappa is the international academic honor society for two-year colleges.

Alli Howard, vice president of leadership of the Alpha Phi Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, presented a check for $600 to Jeb Murphy from Sexual Assault Victims Emergency Services. Also present were Gail Bennett, chapter president; Sahil Sanan, member; and Bobbi Jean Burke, admissions representative. Joining Alpha Phi Xi in making the gift were the college music club and the Student Senate.

In addition to the walk, used winter clothing for children and women and nonperishable food items are being collected and will be donated to local organizations. Donation boxes for such items will remain on campus until the holiday break for those who wish to participate.
