Lewiston firefighters go through an apartment building at 425-431 Main St. searching for the source of smoke on Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters evacuated the 20-unit building and shut down a stretch of Main Street for an hour while they scoured the large building and used thermal imaging equipment searching for the source of the smoke, fire Chief Paul LeClaire said. Firefighters eventually found food burning on a stove in a first-floor apartment. No one was injured. Firefighters broke doors to get into some apartments, but there was no other damage.
Clarissa Smith, a resident of the apartment building on Main Street, Lewiston, waits across the street after being evacuated when firefighters responded to a possible fire on a cold Tuesday night. Smith was anxious about the well-being of her two cats, which were still in the building.
