100 years ago,1910

The Auburn School Board has voted that no student of the schools of Auburn shall represent that school in athletics unless their rank is above the required standard. Pupils taking four or five studies a week must not be delinquent in more than one and pupils taking three a week must be above in all three.

50 years ago, 1960

A total of 39 cases of communicable disease were reported in the Twin Cities during the week ending Dec. 10, according to the weekly communicable disease bulletin issued by the State Bureau of Health.

Thirty of the cases were in Lewiston, with the largest report being for 24 cases of chickenpox in the Spindle City. Auburn reported a total of nine disease cases.

25 years ago, 1985

The Maine Forest Products Council has named Edward I. Johnston of Lewiston as executive director, according to Robert Chadbourne, president of the council.

The Maine Forest Products Council is an association of growers, harvesters, transporters and processors of trees formed in 1960 to promote a strong and healthy forest industry.

As executive director, Johnston will serve as chief staff person, responsible to the president, for the effective conduct of the affairs of the council.
