AUGUSTA (AP) — A man has been indicted on a murder charge in the stabbing death of a Maine man.
Thirty-year-old Peter Bathgate was indicted Friday in the death of 47-year-old Paul Allen of Augusta. Whose body was found earlier this month along a road in Hallowell.
A state police affidavit says Allen had been stabbed and a broken cane was found near his body. It quotes Bathgate as saying he went into a rage after seeing Allen flirting with his girlfriend.
The Kennebec Journal reports, if convicted, the charge carries a minimum 25-year prison sentence and a maximum sentence of life without the opportunity for release.
