WILTON — A Renovation Repair and Painting (RRP) course will be held at the Western Maine Community Action offices, 20 Church St., from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24.

The course is designed to inform landlords and contractors how to perform maintenance safely on homes with lead-based paint.

Under the new EPA lead rule, which went into effect in April, contractors performing projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, childcare facilities and schools built before 1978 must be certified by attending a RRP course.

Participants will learn specific work practices to prevent lead contamination and other requirements of meeting the EPA rule. A certified instructor from Environmental Management Inc. will teach the course, which is limited to 20 participants.

Preregistration is required on a first-come, first-serve basis. Vouchers are available to landlords reducing the cost to $25.  The cost is $95 for all others.  Call Sandy at the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition (RVHCC) at 364-7408 for information about vouchers.
