GREENE – Alan Seavey Rideout, 84, a longtime resident of Route 202, in Greene, passed away on Sunday morning, Dec. 26, at his home with his family and friends by his side.

He was born Nov. 18, 1926, in Lewiston, the son of Virgal and Elisabeth “Lisa” (Owen) Rideout. He was a 1945 graduate of Lewiston High School. On Oct. 30, 1946, he married his high school sweetheart, Mildred Furbush. Alan drove truck since he was 15 years old, having an oil business with his father, then he started hauling lumber in and out of state. Alan drove tractor and trailer for 60 years until his retirement. After he retired, he worked for Al Donovan at Donovan’s Auto in Greene for eight years. He was a past Master of the Androscoggin Grange and an honorary member of Ashlar Masonic Lodge in Auburn. Alan was very proud of his daughters and was a great dad and family man, even though he was on the road a lot.

He was always ready and able to help friends and neighbors and was a “jack of all trades” until he was stricken with Alzheimer’s and cancer.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mildred Rideout of Greene; two daughters, Barbara Kelley and husband, Shawn, of Livermore Falls and Cindy Lee Rideout of Harpswell; three grandchildren, Richard Alan Damon, Casey Lee Rideout Burke and Shawn P. Kelley Jr.; seven great-grandchildren; his nephew, Wayne Burgess of Mechanic Falls; and close friends, Susan Bubier Graham and Donna Shields, whom he considered members of the family.

He was predeceased his brother, Miles Wolf; several cousins, aunts and uncles.
