FARMINGTON — Selectmen approved a promotion from within the Farmington Police Department for the position of sergeant on Tuesday.

Patrolman Michael C. Adcock, 31, was promoted to sergeant taking the night sergeant position from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., Chief Jack Peck told the board.

Adcock started for the Farmington department in 2007 after serving as a police officer in Massachusetts for six years.  He has a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from Anna Marie College in Paxton, Mass.

He was married this past September, has a daughter and lives in Jay.

Adcock replaces Shane Cote, who was promoted to the position of deputy chief,  replacing Peck, who was appointed police chief in August after the death of Chief Richard Caton III.

Adcock notices everything and looks a bit further into every investigation, Bonnie Pomeroy, department secretary, said earlier Tuesday. He prevented an auto theft by noticing and following up on something he saw, she explained.

“He was awarded employee of the quarter in the winter and spring of 2009 for his efforts in traffic enforcement, his excellent work ethic and keen observations that solved a burglary that could have otherwise gone unsolved,” according to the department’s website.

“Adcock is good to work with and we’re all anxious to see him in this position,” she said.
