COVINGTON, Ga. — Cecile Sylvestre Burgess, 93, peacefully passed away into the arms of her Lord and Savior at 1:55 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, in Covington, Ga. She was surrounded by her immediate family. She had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for several years.

She was born on June 7, 1917, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, one of eight children of Zoel and Eva (Lalanne) Sylvestre of Sabattus Street. She graduated from Holy Family Grammar School. On Sept. 4, 1939, she married Philip L. Levesque, son of former Lewiston Mayor Donat J. Levesque. Mr. Levesque died on Feb. 29, 1972 in Lewiston. They had two sons, Richard J. of Loganville, Ga., and Gerald R. of Morehead City, N.C.

In 1974, Cecile married Larry Burgess of Auburn, the personnel manager for Bates Mill. They moved to Boca Raton, Fla., that same year, where they enjoyed the warm weather and the new friends they made. Cecile turned her life over to Jesus Christ shortly afterward and trusted him for the remainder of her life. She was a faithful member of her church, Spanish River Presbyterian, in Boca Raton and was very active in the Christian Women’s Clubs.

Mr. Burgess passed away in Boca Raton in 2007. She was moved by her children to assisted living homes in South Carolina and Georgia and finally made her residence for the last several months at the Riverside Nursing Home.

She leaves behind her son, Richard and his wife, Patricia (Caron) Levesque; her son, Gerald and his wife, Dorothy (Bourgois) Levesque; grandchildren, Richard Levesque Jr., Alice Viggiano, David Levesque, Kristine Twardowski, Jennifer Levesque and Jeremy Levesque; great-grandchildren, Alisha Twardowski and Amanda Viggiano; her two surviving siblings, Zoel Sylvestre Jr. of Danvers, Mass., and Jean Lomonte of South Paris; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Margaret DeLisle, Gertrude Metayer, Yvonne Caron and Terese Gagnon; and her brother, Robert Sylvestre.
