AUBURN — Lewiston-Auburn Community Little Theatre’s February production will be “To Kill a Mockingbird,” based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Harper Lee and adapted by Christopher Sergel.

The classic is set during the Great Depression in a rural, small town in Maycomb, Ala. Attorney Atticus Finch (played by Stan Spilecki) has been assigned to defend Tom Robinson, (Boyd Scott) who has been accused of raping a young white woman, Mayella Ewell (Danielle Sicotte.) Because Robinson is black, Atticus and his children, Jean Louise, also known as “Scout,” (Julia St. Laurent) and Jeremy (Drew Masse), are being harassed by racist inhabitants of the town. Luka Baskett is understudy for the role of “Scout.” Dante Baskett plays Dill, a young friend of the Finch children.

Deidra Opfermann plays Calpurnia, housekeeper for the Finch family. Neighbor women are Irma Penn as Miss Maudie, Andrea Quaid as Miss Stephanie and Rachel Morin as Mrs. Dubose.

Male roles include Mark Hazard as Heck Tate, Bob Greeley as Judge Taylor, Glenn Atkins as Rev. Sykes, Roger Philippon as Bob Ewell, Ronald Charest as Walter Cunningham, Harley Marshall as Mr. Gilmer, Phil Vampatella as Court Clerk and Travis Mayo as Boo Radley.

Nakesha Myrick and Michelle Vasquez Jacobus are the townspeople.

The play covers the time leading up to Robinson’s arrest, through the trial, and what happens after that. This is a three-year period in the novel, but the time is compressed in the stage version.
