AUGUSTA (AP) — Gov. John Baldacci is saying farewell in his final gubernatorial radio address.

In his weekly address Saturday, Baldacci gives thanks to Maine residents for their support, kindness and trust during his eight years as governor. He says being governor was “a privilege and an honor.”

Baldacci steps down next week when Republican Gov.-elect Paul LePage takes office.

Baldacci, who is a Democrat, says he wishes the best for the new governor, his team and the new Legislature as they chart a course for Maine.

In the Republican response, Rep. Kathy Chase of Wells says that if her party could make a New Year’s resolution, it would be devoting its energies to bringing about a lasting economic revival in Maine.
