LEWISTON — Betty Gloria (Benjou) Kinney, 80, died Jan. 10, at d’Youville Pavilion.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y, Jan. 6, 1931. Betty loved her crafts. She knitted, crocheted, sewed, did ceramics, always having a variety of projects going. She also loved reading books about the Kennedys and Grace Kelly.

As a first generation American, Betty proudly served as a Navy wife for 23 years. Her father was a furrier in New York, so she grew up going from one Greek restaurant to another telling the owners she was Teddy’s daughter and would eat for free. Betty taught her children the art of hard work, determination and provided them with a sense of pride knowing that they were second generation Americans.

She is survived by three daughters, Althea, Alexis and Alesia; one son, Gordon, Jr.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
