LEWISTON — Elbert O. Derick, 69, of Pond Road, Wales, died unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 9, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Worcester, Mass., Sept. 22, 1941, a son of the late Orion (Dutch) and Pauline (Wixon) Derick. Elbert married Wilma Ashburn on May 27, 1961.

He worked for many years as an electrical engineer for Digital in Augusta. He also taught electronics at CMVTI for five years. He was a very active member of the Webster Masonic Lodge 164, where he was a past master and the secretary for the last 18 years.

He enjoyed flying his own plane around the country with his wife, Wilma. He also enjoyed working with wood, building furniture and he even built his own home, where he still lived today and also helped rebuild the Grange hall, which is now Webster Lodge, and tinkering; he could fix anything.

He leaves his wife of 49 years, Wilma of Wales; two sons, Elbert Derick Jr. of Harwich, Mass., and William Derick of Wales; a daughter, Sherrice Golden and her husband, Paul, of Millis, Mass.; a brother, Burton Derick and his wife, Ruth, of South Dennis, Mass.; four grandchildren, Mary and Melissa Derick and Zachary and Katy Golden; and two aunts, Adelia West of Dennis Port, Mass., and Natalie Denzer and husband, Neil, of Wellfleet, Mass.
