PORTLAND — Singers Kate Schrock and Emilia Dahlin, actress Amanda Houtari, the Baraka dance troupe, Elm Street Studio and A Company of Girls will take the stage during “Girls Night Out” on Saturday, Jan. 29.

The event is a fundraiser for A Company of Girls and Ensemble performances in May at the Portland Stage Studio Space.

A Company of Girls’ mission is to strengthen and empower girls and their families, and foster community through the arts. ACOG is an after-school theater- and arts-based prevention program for low-income, at-risk and special needs girls ages 7-18.

Schrock is known for her blend of rock, jazz, gospel and pop. Dahlin weaves mesmerizing tales (complete with Greek myths, robotic messiahs, epic floods and tax evaders) with raw, rootsy folk and dynamic jazz vocals.

Houtari is an actress, teaching artist and executive director of Celebration Barn Theater in South Paris. Since 2001, she has been collaborating with Michael Miclon and Fritz Grobe at the Oddfellow Theater in Buckfield. She is now in her eighth season performing Add Verb Productions’ one-woman show, “The Thin Line.” Her original work has been featured at the New York Clown-Theatre and Orlando Fringe and Seattle’s Moisture festivals.

Jamileh, Josie Conte and Marianna, aka Baraka, have danced at art and multicultural festivals, in concerts and as soloists. Jamileh will dance Raks beledi, a folk expression of dance in the Arabic style. Josie will dance a Turkish 9/8 in a fusion of world dance from North Africa, Spain, India and Egypt, from the “Romany Trail.” Marrianna will dance a modern club version of Raks Sharqi, a performance art that emerged out of folk dance.

“Girls Night Out” will be held at Catherine McAuley Auditorium, 631 Stevens Ave., with food and a silent auction at 5 p.m., followed by performances at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20. For reservations or more information, call 874-2107 or visit www.acompanyofgirls.org.
