SKOWHEGAN, Maine (AP) — First Wind is asking the Somerset County Commissioners to hold off on deciding whether to form a tax-increment financing district associated with a proposed wind farm in Mayfield Township.
The Morning Sentinel of Waterville says the commissioners are surprised and disappointed with the request on a plan that could have brought millions of dollars for economic development into the region’s unorganized territories. Projects could have included things like a regional bus system, multi-use trails and expansion of broadband access.
Massachusetts-based First Wind’s delay request goes before the commissioners Wednesday.
Establishing a tax-increment financing district would capture increases in property values around the wind development planned by First Wind.
