LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women is seeking to expand its volunteer companion program. Companions serve as a non-anxious and non-judgmental listening presence at the center and are the primary persons responsible for maintaining the safe and respectful environment.
Companions come with a background in fields such as social work, teaching, spiritual direction or chaplaincy. Interested individuals must be able to commit to working at least one three-hour block of time regularly the same day each week.
In support of the work, the companion team meets monthly for group supervision with a local therapist. All companions are required to participate in a training on the awareness and prevention of sexual misconduct. The center also offers $100 annually to each companion toward a relevant workshop or training program of their choice.
It is an opportunity to volunteer in a collaborative environment that supports women in nurturing friendships and is a chance to grow personally through a practice of deep sacred listening with other women.
If interested in being a companion, contact Klara Tammany, executive director, for an interview, at 513-3922. Provide two references.
The center welcomes interested women to participate in programs at the center. All programs are offered free. For more information and a calendar of activities, see www.wisdomswomen.org.
