FARMINGTON — Salmon habitat restoration in the Kennebec River Watershed, including the Sandy River, will be the topic of a PowerPoint presentation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, in the town office.

It is sponsored by the Upper Kennebec Valley Chapter of the Small Woodlot Owners Association of Maine and the Farmington Conservation Commission.

The speaker will be Ron Joseph, who recently retired as a wildlife biologist in Maine. He spent 33 years working for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, according to a recent report from Patty Cormier, district forester with the Maine Forest Service.

Cormier said Joseph “spent most of his career restoring rivers (removing dams) and degraded fish and wildlife habitat by working cooperatively with private landowners.”

“Ron is keenly interested in helping salmon populations recover in the Sandy River Watershed,” she said. “This will be an interesting presentation for landowners and those just interested in the biology of salmon.”

The presentation is free and open to the public. Cormier said there is no need to preregister, “just show up.”

For more information, contact Cormier at 592-2238 or patty.cormier@maine.gov.
