FARMINGTON — Rhoda Sabin, 92, of Wilton, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, at the Orchard Park Rehabilitation & Living Center, where she had been a patient for the past six years.

She was born Feb. 1, 1918, in Wilton, the daughter of Howard and Agnes (Wilkins) Towle. She attended Wilton schools and graduated from Wilton Academy in 1936.

In 1937, she married Grosvenor “Bill” Sabin in Wilton, where they made their home. Bill died in 1989.

As a child, Rhoda showed exceptional ability at the piano and music became an important part of her life. She served as the pianist for many dance bands and musical shows throughout western and central Maine. Rhoda gave piano lessons to many, many students both young and old over the years.

She was a longtime member of the Wilton American Legion Auxiliary and served as the president and secretary for many years. Rhoda also served as a counselor for Girls’ State through the Auxiliary and was a 50-year member of the Franklin Grange and longtime member of the Rebekahs.

Rhoda was a loving and doting mother and grandmother.

She is survived by two sons, Steven Sabin and his wife, Christine, of Wilton and Harvey and his wife, Laurilyn, of Wilton; five grandchildren, Janice, Paul and Kelly Sabin, Amanda Berry and Jon Downing-Sabin; four great-grandchildren, Bradley, Darby, Emma and Evan.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bill; stepparents, Harold and Gertie Wheeler; stepbrothers, Paul and Owen Wheeler; and a grandson, William Sabin.

Her family wishes to extend a grateful thank-you to all of the special nurses and staff of Orchard Park for their loving care over the last six years.
