LEWISTON — The Maine Women’s Fund (MWF) is seeking nominees for its annual Samantha Smith and Sarah Orne Jewett awards,  and the MWF Lewiston/Auburn Advisory Council is particularly interested in finding nominees from the greater L/A area, including Turner, Sabattus, Greene, Litchfield and Leeds.

The Samantha Smith Award is given to a young woman (ages 12 to 21) from Maine who works to promote social change in her community; inspires other girls to become active in supporting long-lasting change in Maine; uses her voice to influence others; and understands the power of philanthropy to make a difference.

The Sarah Orne Jewett Award is given to a Maine woman who exhibits the attributes of the women in Jewett’s works of fiction: true grit, independence, courage, humor and discipline.

The nomination form is available on http://www.mainewomensfund.org/images/uploads/Award_Nomination_Form.pdf.

Send nominees electronically or by hard copy by Tuesday, Feb. 1, to Ellen Alcorn at Harward Center for Community Partnerships Bates College Lewiston, ME 04240 or [email protected].
