FARMINGTON — Kenni Norton scored 19 points to lead the University of Maine at Farmington to a 76-64 North Atlantic Conference women’s basketball win Wednesday night over Thomas College at Dearborn Gymnasium.

Jillian Ross turned in a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards for the Beavers (7-8 overall, 4-2 NAC), who outscored Thomas 41-32 in the second half to distance themselves from the Terriers. Ashley Busque added 15 points in the victory.

Farmington shot 47.1 percent (16-34) in the second half, while limiting the Terriers to 31 percent (9-29). 

Karin Bird powered Thomas (5-9, 3-3) with 25 points, while Mallorie Blakney pitched in 14 points and Kate Thibodeau grabbed 10 rebounds. Bird knocked down eight of 10 foul shots.

The first half featured seven ties, the final deadlock at 31-31 with 3:23 to go. A Kelsey Graffam layup and a pair of Paige Saunders free throws helped UMF to a 35-32 advantage at intermission.

Farmington started the second half with a 7-1 surge to take a 42-33 command, but the Terriers responded with the next six points to knock the lead to 43-39. Keyed by 3-pointers from Ross and Lindsay Gordon, UMF outscored Thomas 13-5 over the next four minutes.

Men’s basketball

Thomas 85, UMF 75

FARMINGTON — Andrew Duncansonpoured in a career-high 36 points to power Thomas College to an 85-75 North Atlantic Conference men’s basketball win Wednesday night over University of Maine at Farmington at Dearborn Gymnasium.

Duncanson made 13 of 22 from the field, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, and made all seven of his foul shots. Jarrad DeVaughn pitched in 14 points for Thomas (7-7, 4-2 NAC). Duncanson and DeVaughn each had seven rebounds.

Twenty-five of Duncanson’s total came in the second half, including 14 points in the final 3:43 to help the Terriers put away the Beavers (6-10, 2-4).

Freshman Ben Johnson turned in a career-high double-double for the Beavers with 24 points and 17 rebounds. Eric Taylor also posted double-digit totals in points (13) and rebounds (11), while D.J. Gerrish chipped in 10 points and seven assists.

UMF outshot Thomas 45.8 percent (33-72) to 42 percent (29-69), but made only two 3-pointers to Thomas’ 11 and shot a woeful 43.8 percent (7-16) from the charity stripe.

Thomas twice built leads of eight points in the second half. A Johnson layup gave Farmington a 67-66 edge with 3:55 remaining, but Duncanson followed with a layup and a jumper to give the visitors a 70-67 lead with 3:14 left.

The Beavers stayed within a possession with the score at 75-72 with 1:18 to play, but Duncanson buried a 3-pointer to push the Terriers to a 78-72 advantage. Duncanson drained four straight foul shots as Thomas made 7-of-8 in the final 50 seconds.
