DEAR SUN SPOTS: Liberty Rebekah Lodge 94 wishes to get the news out to high school seniors and college undergraduates who would like to attend an accredited Maine institution and pursue a registered nursing degree that the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of Maine have a nurses training award program called the Ellen F. Washburn Nurses Training Award, which was established more than 50 years ago.

To apply, the student must submit an application, financial need analysis, references and a photograph. Deadline is April 15. Contact Chairwoman Joyce Young, 839-4723. —Esther Tucker, et238@roadrunner.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In the past there were wonderful fish dinners offered twice a month at the Amvets 15 in Durham. There have been no ads about it in the Check It Out column of the newspaper. I have even gone there to no avail.

I have an idea that when Route 136 was closed for repairs it changed the attendance. Could you please give some information as to whether or not they are going to open anytime soon? Thank you. — No Name, Auburn

ANSWER: Sun Spots has no information. Readers?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read an older letter in your column that gave the url for Google’s index of old Lewiston newspapers. I did find some old obituaries through that. Lately, though, I am unable to get back to that site. Did they change it? — No Name via e-mail

ANSWER: Sun Spots went back and checked the sites, and they came up fine for her. The overall site for archive searches is http://news.google.com/archivesearch. For the Sun it is http://tinyurl.com/334ehgd. For the Evening Journal http://tinyurl.com/2v2uu7x. Tiny urls are not supposed to expire, and these two seem to be active.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Several weeks ago I lost a silver bracelet in the Lewiston-Auburn area while running errands and attending doctors’ appointments. Possible places where it may have been lost include Central Maine Medical Center, Central Maine Imaging Center, Family Health Associates, Hannaford’s and Goodwill.

The bracelet is silver with red, lime green and pink birthstones and silver block letters spelling “MIMI” embedded within the birthstones and silver beads. I would be so grateful to have this special piece of jewelry back as it was a special gift from my family.

If anyone has found it, please e-mail me at afournier4@roadrunner.com. — Alfreda Fournier, Auburn

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Danville Union Church is in need of a pianist/organist at our small little country church. We have a small but faithful congregation and cannot afford to spend a great deal for our music.

If interested in this less-than-demanding position, please contact Trustee Wesley Ryder at 783-6897. — G. Ryder, Danville, gryder36@aol.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for the ongoing support given to area homeless youth through the STEP Program at Lewiston High School. Your willingness to give during the recent holiday season was greatly appreciated and needed, as many wishes were able to be granted due to this generosity.

Feel free to contact us if you would like more information about our program and ways to assist students experiencing homelessness: Jamie (ext. 2215) or Mary (ext. 2214) at Lewiston High School, 795 4190. Thank you again for taking the time out to think about our students in need. — Jamie Caouette, jcaouette@lewistonpublicschools.org
