When all the tumult and shouting dies, and the dust begins to settle, emerging from it all will be the stalwart figure of the honorable Paul LePage, governor of the state of Maine.
This son of Lewiston, who battled through the rigors of Mickey Marden’s retail salvage empire to a top management position, won an overwhelming mandate to become mayor of Waterville, and then, to the astonishment of the slumbering political elite of the state, became our governor — heaven be praised.
LePage followed a rather lengthy parade of honorable and largely unremarkable men who tended shop while the once vibrant and energetic state slowly slid into the economic shadows in which it finds itself today.
Gov. LePage is no shrinking violet — quite obviously — and thank the good Lord, as I see it, is no devotee of the cult of political correctness that is stifling us today.
So, given the fact that he pops off, he also knows what’s what, so let’s give him a great big chance and eagerly watch his progress.
William Lever, Auburn
