LEWISTON — La Rencontre will meet at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at the Franco-American Heritage Center, 46 Cedar St.
The meal will include pork loin, rice pilaf, vegetables, dessert and beverage. The cost is $7 a person. After the meal, Dr. Benoit Blondeau will give a presentation on “The Importance of Cancer Prevention and Screening” followed with entertainment provided by John Corrie of the Music Department at Bates College.
Patrons are encouraged to speak only French during the two-hour meal in the newly-renovated Heritage Hall, followed by entertainment in the Performance Hall.
Blondeau is a physician at Central Maine Medical Center with focus on trauma and general surgery.
Corrie, who teaches the musicianship labs, applied voice and directs the Bates College Choir, is a harpsichord and organ performer. In January of 2005, Corrie took over duties as organist at the Bates College Chapel. Corrie has been artistic director of the Maine Music Society since the spring of 2006.
