LEWISTON — New in February at the Center for Wisdom’s Women will be health and wellness checks sponsored by USM/LA nursing students.

Tasha Zimkowski and Alisa Belskis will provide blood pressure and weight checks and will be available for one-on-one conversations about meds and general health-related issues. The “Healthy You” time will be offered from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursdays.

Other one-on-one offerings include “Inner Spirit” with Pam Beliveau from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14. She offers 15- to 20-minute conversations for spiritual direction. Shanna Rogers from the Neighborhood Housing League is at the center from 10 to 11 a.m. each Monday to consult with anyone about landlord and tenant issues.

The center now hosts a monthly “Laugh Out Loud” (LOL) group. Laughter therapy time will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7. The center will host a Valentine’s Day High Tea at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14.

The QiGong (Chi Gong) class continues at 1 p.m.Thursdays, Feb. 3 and 15. It is a simple, relaxing ancient Chinese form of exercise. Denise Dill from St. Mary’s Nutrition Center of Maine will teach her monthly class at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23. The focus is on eating well on a tight budget. 

The fibromyalgia support group continues from 10:30 a.m. to noon Mondays. Membership is open to any woman with a current diagnosis.

The presentation by Susan Hayward of Thorncrag Nature Sanctuary, canceled due to snow in January, has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28. She will show slide photos of birds and plants found in the sanctuary and share history and plans for the future.

Other regular programs include a painting class; a scrapbooking group and card-making class; and small groups that focus on building self-esteem. The center welcomes all women, and all programs are offered free. For a complete calendar of activities, see www.wisdomswomen.org.
