MILWAUKEE (AP) — Having the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl apparently is too much competition for some Milwaukee area churches.

The Journal Sentinel reports that rather than going up against the big game, some churches are canceling their Sunday afternoon and evening services this weekend.

St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Cedarburg is among churches rescheduling for the Super Bowl. Pastor Tom Eichenberger says Sunday evening Mass “is a bit of a luxury,” and he has no problem canceling a service “when it falls on a legal holy day like Super Bowl Sunday.”

Other churches are sticking to their Sunday schedules but are acknowledging the Super Bowl. Some churches are collecting food and donations to fight hunger as part of the Souper Bowl of Caring.
