LEWISTON — Several varieties of waterfowl and shorebirds will be the center of interest for participants of the field trip sponsored by the Stanton Bird Club on Saturday, Feb. 12. The Parker River National Wildlife refuge on Plum Island in Massachusetts is the destination.

The group will car pool from the Promenade Mall parking lot in front of Staples, leaving at 7 a.m. and returning around 4 p.m. Those attending should bring a lunch.

Plum Island is a natural barrier island stretching along the Massachusetts coast between the mouth of the Merrimack River to the north and the mouth of the Ipswich River to the south. The island can be a magnet for winter birds, and a snowy owl is a possibility.

Stanton field trips are free and nonmembers are invited. All experience levels are welcome. For more information, contact trip leader Linda Seamans at 240-1380.
