READFIELD — A body has been found in the rubble of a house in Readfield that burned early this morning and three occupants of the home are still missing, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

According to a press release sent by the Department of Public Safety, fire investigators located the body late this morning as they were searching the remains of a two-story house on Church Road. The fire was reported at about 3:30 a.m. by a neighbor.

Six towns’ fire departments responded to the fire scene. The house was engulfed in flames when the firefighters arrived, according to the release.

The house was occupied by five people, only two of which have been accounted for, according to the release. Investigators from the fire marshal’s office and the Maine State Police are continuing to search the rubble.
