Board: Turner selectmen

Met: Monday night

Representative needed

Issue: The SAD 52 board is putting together a selection committee to find a replacement for Superintendent Darlene Burdin, who plans to leave her post this summer. The committee wants a community member from each of its towns: Turner, Greene and Leeds.

The Scoop: Another committee, another empty seat.

Up Next: Town Manager Eva Leavitt is looking for candidates.

Unfunded balance growing

Issue: The town’s unfunded balance has grown to $1.62 million. The money must be carefully watched because the school department is forecasting a shortfall and money from the unfunded balance may be needed to offset an increase in the school’s tax levy. About 48 percent of SAD 52’s budget comes from Turner.

The scoop: Auditors say the balance is healthy, but a money squeeze looms.

Up Next: Voters will decide what to do with the finances at the annual town meeting, scheduled for April 2.
