POLAND — The story of Wabanaki basketmaking at Poland Spring will be the topic of Sara Willett’s presentation for the Check It Out! series at the Ricker Memorial Library from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16.

Over the years, Wabanaki basketmakers have created masterpieces that stand out. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries the basketmakers brought their artistry to Poland Spring during the summer seasons. While Wabanaki basketmakers visited many destinations, Poland Spring was an important venue for a variety of reasons. Willett will explain why.

Willett is a recent graduate of the University of Maine where she majored in history, focusing on Wabanaki history and culture in Maine.

Friends of Ricker Library sponsor the Check It Out! series of brown bag lunchtime programs, held in the main reading room of the library. Everyone is invited to hear the talk and to see examples of the baskets.

Guests may bring their own lunches, or they may choose to order lunches prepared by Square Root Natural Foods. For details about selections and to order, call Ricker Library at 998-4390 by noon Tuesday, Feb. 15. Lunches ordered from Square Root will be delivered to the library before noon.
