BETHEL — Daniel Vaughn poured in a game-high 26 points and Telstar opened a nine-point lead in the first quarter that Mountain could not overcome as the Rebels upended the point-rich Falcons for a clinching 70-61 victory in an MVC regular-season finale Thursday.

The victory seals a tournamnet bid for Telstar (12-6) , who will likely host a prelim game next week.

Telstar quickly took control in opening a 23-14 advantage after the first quarter. The lead grew to 37-25 at halftime and 54-41 entering the final quarter.

Vaughn’s performance included 11 rebounds, six steals and eight assists. Aiding him were teammates Cory Howard and Ben Field with 13 points, while Elek Pew chipped in with 10 points.

Izaak Mills scored 25 points to pace Mountain Valley (16-2), while Cam Kaubris scored 13 points and Jacob Theriault had 11.

St. Dom’s 40, Monmouth 30

AUBURN — St. Dom’s used a strong second half, outscoring Monmouth 21-14 to pull away for a 40-30 victory.

The Saints won their sixth straight game to finish the season 9-9. It appears they will earn a spot in a class C preliminary game.

With the Saints leading 26-23 through three quarters, St. Dom’s used strong defensive play and sharp free-throw shooting to put away from the Mustangs (12-6).

Kurt Johnson scored a game-high 14 points, including a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. Joe Bryant followed with eight points, including one from behind the arc. Andrew Gosselin and Tom Applegate each scored seven points. Applegate also hauled down 14 rebounds the Saints (9-9).

Tim Whitmore paced the Mustangs with a dozen points, including a pair from the 3-point line. Robbie Neal followed with nine points in the loss.

Mt. Blue 82, Skowhegan 59

FARMINGTON — Mt. Blue erupted for 29 points in the fourth quarter and raced away to a 82-59 victory over Skowhegan in KVAC boys’ basketball action Thursday.

Cam Sennick led the Cougars (14-4) with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Eric Berry chipped in with 18 points and seven steals, while Dom Clements added 14 points.

The Indians (3-15) were paced by Levi Barnes with a solid 23-point effort, while Lucas Fortier chipped in with 12 points.

Oxford Hills 60, Mt. Ararat 43

PARIS — Dan Taylor ignited a 15-5 run in the second quarter that allowed Oxford Hills to pull away for a 60-43 victory over Mt. Ararat.

Taylor finished with a career-high 27 points for the Vikings (7-11), including eight in that critical second frame. Matt McVety chipped in with eight points and 10 rebounds for Oxford Hills in a well-balanced attack.

The Eagles (10-8) were led by Josh Walker with 18 points and five assists. Josh Wright also contributed with 11 points, the only other player in double figures.

Madison 56, Mt. Abram 43

MADISON — Cody Briggs netted a game-high 23 points, including a pair of 3-point baskets, to lead Madison to a 56-43 victory over Mt. Abram in MVC boys’ basketball.

Madison came out running and took a 13-2 lead after one quarter. After both clubs scored 11 points in the second quarter, the Roadrunners (3-15) outscored the Bulldogs 18-11 to cut the lead to four, 35-31.

Madison (5-13) put the game away in the fourth by putting up 21 points. Ian Hartigan scored 12 points for the Bulldogs. Mt. Abram’s Robert Rivers registered 12 points followed by Jamie Howard’s nine. Tyler Hupper added eight points in the loss.

Leavitt 46, Oak Hill 42

WALES — Leavitt used a 12-4 run in the second quarter to gain control and held on to post a 46-42 victory over Oak Hill in a KVAC boys’ basketball tilt.

Jordan Hersom led the powerhouse Hornets (14-4) with 18 points, while Kyle Smith chipped in with seven.

The Raiders (3-15) were paced by Cam Morin with a game-high 20 points, while Cody Provost tallied seven.

Livermore Falls 68, Carrabec 36

NORTH ANSON — Hunter Brett scored 13 points and teammate Mike Castonguay added as Livermore Falls cruised to a 68-36 victory over Carrabec (1-17) in a boys’ basketball game Thursday night.

The Andies (11-7) had no problem building a 33-15 at halftime, and the second half was also a cakewalk for Livermore Falls.

Carrabec’s Dylan Price threw in the game-high 19 points, including five 3-pointers.

Jay 58, Dirigo 49

JAY —? Jay jumped out to a five-point advantage in the first quarter and hustled to a 58-49 victory over Dirigo in a MVC regular season finale Thursday evening.

Zach Bonnevie led the Tigers (11-7) with 16 points, highlighted by a pair of three-pointers. Jake Bessey also contributed with 16 points in an effective two-man attack.

The Cougars (16-2) were paced by Cody St. Germain and Josh Turbide with 14 points each, while Ben Holmes chipped in with 12.
