PETALUMA, Calif. — June Jordan Caldwell died Feb. 4, in California.

June was born the 13th child of Carrie Emma Pulsifer and Earl Howard Jordan in West Bethel. She was a star student and graduate of Edward Little High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in education.

June married Ralph Goodwin Caldwell, her high school sweetheart, in 1942. The newlyweds moved to New York, where Ralph attended Nyack Seminary from which he launched his professional career as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy. June and Ralph raised two sons and three daughters, Courtney Carl Caldwell of Centreville,Va., Jeffrey Caldwell of Auburn, Jennifer Caldwell Crotty of Saratoga, Calif., Christina Jordan Keough of Winter Park, Fla., and Margaret Ruth Caldwell of Saratoga, Calif.

June loved gardening, studying geology and history, teaching, playing Scrabble, traveling and being with family. June especially loved her grandchildren who lovingly refer to her as “Nana.” After being widowed, she spent her retirement years in San Francisco, walking every day and caring for her community garden plot at Fort Mason.

June is also survived by her sister, Janice Clark of Auburn; brother, Laurence Jordan of Poland; brother, Earl Jordan of Florida; and grandchildren, Kimberly Caldwell Katsuyama of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Carrie Caldwell Bonkiewisz of Virginia, Jennifer Lyn Caldwell of Washington, Laura Kathryn Crotty, James Maxwell Crotty and Emily Caldwell Crotty of Saratoga, Calif., and Eliot Caldwell Williams and Robert Jordan Williams of Saratoga, Calif.

Her children deeply appreciate the loving care she received from the Oaks Dementia and Alzheimer’s Center in Petaluma, Calif., and Hospice By the Bay, California.
