AUBURN — Roger W. Fournier, 78, of Schooner Estates died Monday, Feb. 14, at the Androscoggin Hospice House following a brief illness.

He was born in Lewiston, May 24, 1932, the son of Eddy and Victorine (Gastonguay) Fournier. He was educated in Lewiston schools and later served his country in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis. Following his service, he attended and graduated from the University of Southern Maine School of Art.

He worked for many years at Pioneer Plastics as an artist, where he retired in 1994, and later part-time at Walmart as a greeter.

Along with his wife Rita, they frequently attended the Cursillo in Augusta and also both served as eucharistic ministers at Holy Family Church. He served as president of the L/A Art Association and was a member of the American Legion Post 158 in Lisbon. Dad loved big band musicals and most recently he would love to serenade the residents at Schooner during meal times.

He is survived by his wife, Rita A. (Boutin) Fournier, whom he married on May 31, 1952; his daughter, Susan Harps and husband, Ray, of Lewiston and their children, Melissa Vyr and husband, Scott, of San Diego, Calif., and Troy Harps of Lisbon; his son, Tim Fournier and wife, Rebecca and their son, Zachary, and Jacob who is expected in June, all of Kentucky.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother-in-laws; sister-in-laws; and his son, Gary Fournier, who died on March 22, 2004.
