LEWISTON — The 39th-annual LAYHL Lions Tournament will be played Saturday, Feb. 19 through Friday, Feb 25. All games will be played at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston.

This year’s main sponsor is The Fortin Group. Teams from Lewiston, Auburn, Casco Bay youth hockey and Gardiner youth hockey will compete in more than 50 scheduled games in divisions of Atoms, Mini-Mites, Mites, Squirts, Peewees and Bantams.

Each tournament team will be assigned an honorary team captain. The captains are local high school varsity players, both boys and girls, from Lewiston, St. Dom’s Academy, Edward Little and Leavitt. The idea is to connect or reconnect our high school teams with local youth programs and bring interest back to a high level in our communities for both high school and youth hockey.

Opening ceremonies begin at 9 a.m. Saturday with the parade of teams. Lewiston Maineiacs public address announcer Ernie Gagne will be master of ceremonies. Teams will be escorted by their honorary team captains. Maineiacs mascots Lewy and Kollide will attend along with the Lions Club Lion. Mayors from Lewiston and Auburn are scheduled to appear, as well. Jamie Bannister will sing the national anthem. The ceremonial puck drop will be conducted by representatives from Fortin Group.

In addition to the slate of games, there will be a skills competition for players in Mites thru Bantams divisions. The annual raffle table will be open, featuring many fabulous prizes.

Division championships will be decided on Feb. 25.

Entrance passes may be purchased at the door. Weekly passes are $5. Daily tickets are $3 and programs are $2. Please come and enjoy the fun.
