The Lewiston Maineiacs hockey team skates with local kids in the backyard rink of Don and Jean Nichols in Windham on Wednesday night. The Nichols won the hockey team’s best backyard rink contest. The rink, built three years ago, is 48 by 96 feet and features 25,000 gallons of water, 48-inch boards with 8-foot-radius corners, 4,000 watts of lights, a frost-free water hydrant for resurfacing, a fire pit and in-house skate-sharpening.
