MEXICO — An accident that caused substantial damage to two cars last week also resulted in the arrest of a passenger on outstanding warrants.
Mexico police Sgt. Roy Hodsdon said Eric Smith, 26, of Old Towle Road, Dixfield, was arrested following a Feb. 17 accident at the intersection of River Road and the entrance to Walmart.
Smith was a passenger in a 1998 Saturn sedan driven by Dale M. Briggs, 79, of Main Street, Dixfield. Briggs’ vehicle and a 2000 Buick sedan driven by Prudence Schofield, 60, of Kennebec Street, Rumford, collided at 6 p.m.
Smith was taken to Rumford Hospital by Med-Care Ambulance Service, where he was treated and released to the Mexico Police Department, who then took him to the Oxford County Jail. Hodsdon said the warrants are out of New Hampshire and involve aggravated assault.
Briggs’ Saturn sustained $8,000 damage. Schofield’s Buick sustained $2,500 damage.
