AUBURN — Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc., with facilities in Auburn and Portland, has donated $8,400 to Good Shepherd Food-Bank for its statewide hunger-relief efforts.
Schnitzer Steel’s national food bank initiative, called Racing to Stop Hunger, is a unified, companywide charitable effort to coordinate and support meaningful connections between its employees and their local communities. Company leaders in the Northeast region recently asked customers to donate $1 for every pound of recycled metal brought in, and the company then matched these donations.
Representatives from the Maine branches presented a check for $8,413 to Rick Small, executive director of GSFB, on Jan. 31.
Schnitzer Steel is one of the largest manufacturers and exporters of recycled ferrous metal products in the United States with 52 operating facilities located in 14 states, Puerto Rico and western Canada.
